What is binge-eating disorder?
Binge-eating disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United States. It's an eating disorder where one has episodes of eating large quantities of food with a feeling of losing control and being accompanied by shame and guilt afterward.
Healing from Binge Eating Disorder is challenging but it is possible!!! Learning to emotionally regulate and make peace with our relationship w/food and our bodies can be difficult but you can do it with Recovered and Restored!!
Remember that sometimes recovery is a little like frostbite it can hurt or even burn but then it heals. Binge Eating disorder can often feel isolating but you don’t have to do it alone. Symptoms of binge-eating disorder include:
Rapidly eating your food
Eating until feeling uncomfortably full
Eating when you don’t feel physically hungry
Shame and guilt around eating
No regular compensatory behaviors
Binges occur a minimum of 1x per week for 3 months

It is possible to recover. There are some tips and tricks that can help provide the support needed to maintain a healthy state of being and resist the temptations to relapse.
Admit there is a problem you do not have to suffer alone.
Begin therapy and create a multidisciplinary team including a HAES therapist, HAES nutritionist, and primary care HAES physician.
Understand that no food is moral. It's not good or bad, just food!
Get rid of your scale and stop focusing on your weight, but focus more on how your body feels.
Identify your triggers and work towards finding alternatives.
Join a support group, such as our Meal Support Group.

Binge eating disorder can often feel isolating and like a cycle that feels impossible to break but you can be a cycle breaker!!! Healing from binge eating disorder is possible! It is possible to heal from binge eating disorder it often takes support, strength, and self-compassion. Self-compassion is key to all eating disorder recovery.
Often times our inner critics convince us we “can’t” but self-compassion helps us believe we CAN and helps us hold space and grace for the bumps along the way!! Remember healing is not linear.
