Hi there! My name is Claudia Griffo, and I am so glad that you are here. Recovery can be a difficult choice to make, and just by being here, you are already taking the first step. I know that recovery is a journey with plenty of ups and downs, and I want you to know that it would be an honor and privilege to be a part of yours. I am passionate not only about working with individuals navigating recovery from an eating disorder, but also working with women navigating various issues/life circumstances. I am a firm believer that each client is the expert of their own life, and I am here to walk alongside you on your journey in a safe and comfortable space.
Claudia Griffo’s Educational Background & Expertise
Life experience led me to pursue a career in the mental health field and has fueled my desire to help both teen and adult women find healing and enjoy a purposeful life and attain emotional freedom. I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with minors in French and Journalism at Rowan University; then moving on to Widener University to complete a Master’s degree in Social Work. During my graduate program I was also able to complete a certificate program in Trauma Recovery and Work across Practice Settings. I was able to gain clinical experience at various levels – macro, mezzo and micro.
I gained insight from exposure to case management, Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) groups. As an avid animal lover, I have been fortunate to have had exposure to equine-assisted therapy, as well as utilizing therapy dogs. If you are ever in session with me one or both of my four-legged friends will most likely join to say hi and provide some virtual emotional support ☺ Individual outpatient work has always been my passion; it is a privilege to work in an intimate setting where I am able to establish trust and collaborate. I am so grateful to have been able to continue in this setting – and do truly meaningful work!
Personalized Eating Disorder Recovery for Women & Girls
While I have worked with various populations – including women’s issues, substance abuse with adults and adolescents, as well as general mental health - assisting individuals who are struggling with an eating disorder is my true passion. My own recovery journey has assisted with my firm belief that recovery is not linear; all of our journeys are unique, and there is no “one size fits all” modality of treatment. Through my own journey, I have witnessed firsthand the impacts of trauma. This has ultimately helped to shape my ability to recognize that each individual is the true expert of their life, and that peace is attainable with the right support.
The therapeutic relationship is a sacred one, and I understand that building comfort and trust takes time. Using empathy is my top priority, and I want clients to understand that I am here to be a guiding support, alongside them, while they navigate their healing journey. My certification in trauma, Trauma Recovery, and Work across Practice Settings has strengthened my ability to work through a trauma-informed lens.
My Eclectic Therapeutic Approach to Therapy: CBT, DBT & Narrative Therapy
I take an eclectic approach and utilize CBT and DBT practices and skills, as well as components of Narrative theory, as part of my work with clients. It is important to look at ourselves as a whole; reflection on each period of our lives (childhood, adolescence, adulthood) and processing experiences to gain deeper insight. Culture and societal expectations are two areas I like to focus on with clients.
Exploration of how our cultures impact our belief systems is a crucial part of doing this work. Within our current society, the media can play a very big role in not only how we view the outside world, but also how we view ourselves. Media, specifically social media, can impact our narrative and continued development.
Free Resources & How to Take the First Step Toward Healing
Social media impacts body image in both teens and adults, which ultimately impacts the potential to develop some type of eating disorder. If this resonates with you, there is more information available in our free guide to Making Peace with Social Media, as well as both the National Alliance for Eating Disorders’ and the Eating Recovery Center’s websites. On both of these sites, you can also find general information on eating disorders as well as opportunities for support groups. I have also included NEDA’s, National Eating Disorder Association, website to also assist with providing further insight. Our blog is a great resource for discussion and insight on a vast array of topics relating to eating disorders. I hope that these resources can be helpful as you navigate your healing and therapeutic journeys!
Through reflection and introspection, we will be able to identify areas for change while also highlighting and focusing on individual strengths. My ideal client is a teen girl or woman who is looking to do some deeper reflection. Personal and professional experience has helped fuel my desire to want to help clients break cycles and create healthy interpersonal relationships.
I am grateful that you have taken the time to get to know me, and I am excited and grateful to get to know YOU! It would be an honor to get to be a part of your journey. Whether you work with me or one of my colleagues here at Recovered and Restored, I hope you can find a place of understanding that healing is possible!
